My most valuable tool…
By Marc Harrison of Harrison-Hiett Rare Books
For collectors and booksellers alike - viaLibri is an exceptionally valuable tool. Hosting, as it does, the world’s largest marketplace for old, rare and out-of-print books; alongside a unique international library search tool and other related features. In fact, viaLibri does all the hard work for you, as it searches more than thirty-five multi-dealer websites world-wide. These include IOBA, AbeBooks, Biblio, ILAB, etc.
These search capabilities can be a tremendous advantage when attempting to locate a copy of a rare book, accessing various institutions’ descriptions; and provides an excellent way of estimating both a work's rarity and its potential value.
What buyers want…
You may be fascinated to know that viaLibri also has over 60,000 permanent ‘wants’ (items people are actively currently looking for) listed by over 2,000 of its registered users. Every day, what is known as ‘Libribot’ matches all of these wants against the latest listings of the booksellers whose websites it searches. If collectors have a ‘want’ that matches an item that has been listed, it will be reported to them directly very shortly after it appears online, ahead of the books listed on the other larger multi-dealer sites.
If you are a member of a bookselling association that is affiliated with the ILAB/LILA (International League of Antiquarian Booksellers) there will be a link saying “Direct From Seller” included in viaLibri results.
